What politics taught me about running a medical practice
When I attended the AMA’s AMPAC Campaign School in DC, I expected to learn about elections.
Instead, I learned about strategy.
Every discussion- from defining your target audience to managing your budget- was eerily familiar.
It mirrored what doctors must do every day to sustain independent practices.
Campaigns and private practices both depend on:
– Knowing your audience (and who isn’t your audience).
– Communicating clearly and consistently.
– Building credibility and trust.
– Making sound financial decisions.
Different arena. Same rules.
The real takeaway?
Doctors don’t need to be politicians.
But we do need to think strategically if we want to stay independent and in control of our work.
