NECK LIFT (LOWER RHYTIDECTOMY)
A NECK LIFT, OR LOWER RHYTIDECTOMY, IS A SURGICAL PROCEDURE THAT IMPROVES VISIBLE SIGNS OF AGING IN THE JAWLINE AND NECK
These improvements include:
- Excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates jowls
- Excess fatty deposits under the chin
- Loose neck skin
- Muscle banding in the neck, which created abnormal contours
The loss of youthful contours in the face and neck can be due to a variety of factors, including heredity, gravity, environmental conditions, and stress.
A traditional neck lift incision often begins in the hairline at the level of the sideburn, continues down and around the ear, and ends in the posterior hair. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the jowls and neck. The tissue underlying the neck skin is repositioned, and commonly the platysma muscle is tightened. Skin is redraped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. A separate incision under the chin is often necessary for the liposuction of this area and for the repair of the muscle. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions.
A limited incision neck lift may involve incisions only around the ear. While the incisions are shorter, the results may be more limited.
A neck lift can only be performed surgically; non-surgical rejuvenation treatments such as Ultherapy cannot achieve the same results but may help delay the time at which a neck lift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery.

Fillers like Juverderm, Belotero and Radiesse can be injected into the fine, horizontal wrinkles on the neck to smooth out their appearance. Fillers are metabolized over time, and how long this takes varies by individual, usually 12-18 months.
C02 Laser Resurfacing is a procedure that has been used for decades to improve the appearance and quality of the skin. It is often used for the face and neck to correct existing signs of skin aging, while also stimulating your own natural collagen production for lasting results. Typically only one treatment session is needed, depending on the depth of the laser penetration to be determined by Dr. Hochman based on your skin. Most patients experience redness, swelling and skin weeping/crusting in the area, resolving over 5 to 7 days. Then it will be temporarily red or pink but can but can be covered by makeup and sunscreen is a must. With proper skin care most people enjoy noticeable results from laser resurfacing for several years.
Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that lifts the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the upper chest. Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to go deeper than other non-invasive for collagen stimulation. There is no downtime but there will be some discomfort in more sensitive areas such as the mouth.
