Why Choose Dr. Hochman?
Dr. Hochman is double Board-certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He was recruited by the Medical University of South Carolina as the first facial plastic surgeon to the institution. By working for 10 years in academia as a full-time employed physician and subsequently in independent private practice with a mix of insured, self-pay, and indigent patients, Dr. Hochman has a unique lens through which he views healthcare delivery. His private practice draws patients from throughout the southeastern United States and internationally. In addition, he continues to have a dedicated clinic and operating room at the Medical University of South Carolina; the only independent physician to do so.
Some people would agree that a heart and soul are far more important than what appears on their outside. But that doesn’t change the fact that your appearance affects the way you feel about yourself. It is only natural to want a more youthful face and younger-looking skin. I combine an extensive background in facial plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck helping people with cosmetic enhancements, vascular malformations, effects of disease or trauma, migraines, hair restoration, and a variety of disorders in order to bring you the best of all worlds.

The facial cosmetic surgeon you choose really does make a difference. It’s essential for you to have confidence in him. I have the respected medical credentials and expertise you need and deserve. I am double Board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology and limit my practice exclusively to the face/head and neck assuring the best possible outcome. I have performed thousands of major facial cosmetic surgeries and other procedures and am Nationally and Internationally renowned.
In 1999 I established The Facial Surgery Center, and then in 2003 created The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation and later The Hemangioma & Malformations Center. In this way I have been deeply involved in giving back to over 1,000 children from the U.S. and around the world, transforming their lives by treating their facial differences. Due to the complexity of their surgeries, I have taken facial plastic and reconstructive surgery to a much higher level than my facial plastic surgery peers through the procedures necessary to correct these involved problems.
I opened the practice, The Migraine Treatment Center, through an appreciation for the misery of chronic and cluster migraine and facial pain sufferers. My interest in the field of migraine relief comes from personal experience with family members who suffer from chronic migraines. I offer multiple effective migraine treatments and more permanent surgery with great integration of my cosmetic skills, vast reconstructive experience, and the ability to perform highly technical surgery through small hidden incisions.
Hair loss restoration has increasingly gained importance for patients. In the past, I performed hair restoration using the “strip” method. Keeping up with best practices, with the advent of Follicular Unit Extraction and implantation technology, I have incorporated this approach into my newest practice, The Hair Loss Treatment Center. I utilize the latest technology in addition to any other surgical/medical therapies proven to restore hair based on my educated assessment of your needs.
In 2008 the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), the world’s largest association of doctors in this field, presented to me the esteemed AAFPRS Community Service Award which is bestowed each year to the doctor who has distinguished him/herself by “making possible free medical service to the poor in his community. It is these and many other impeccable credentials that have earned Dr. Hochman a listing as one of “The Best Doctors in America” for Facial Plastic Surgery and Reconstruction for 24 consecutive years and one of the “The Best Surgeons in America-Facial Plastic Surgery for 17 years. I was privileged to have been awarded the “Order of the Palmetto” by the Governor, South Carolina’s highest civilian award, for my work with these children and their families. In 2016 I was honored that The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation and I were chosen by Charleston Regional Business Journal and the community as a Health Care Hero for the Physician of the Year. This award “honors people and organizations that have a passion for health care and compassion for patients. They go beyond the call of duty for their communities and professions.” I am also honored to have been selected by the Healthcare community as the "Best Plastic Surgeon in Mt. Pleasant 2020 and am proud to have been the recipient of the Post & Courier's 2020 Charleston's Choice Award for Best Plastic Surgeon!
I currently serve as the President of the Charleston County Medical Society where I champion legislative projects to repeal the Certificate of Need law; exempt Doctors from non-compete clauses as a condition of employment and seeking a tax incentive for individual doctors who provide pro-bono charitable medical care. I am especially proud of the part I played with CCMS in devising a system to fulfill the personal protection equipment (PPE) needs for individual practices both in S. C. and other medical associations in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
