The aging process
The aging process normally begins in our mid-20’s. Along with it, the substances that make up our skin – mainly collagen, elastin, and fibrous proteins embedded in young skin that are responsible for plumping the skin — begin to age too.
Add external factors that affect the condition of our skin — sun exposure, repetitive facial expressions, gravity, sleeping positions, and smoking – to the natural aging process, and you start to see real changes by the time you are in your 30’s. Skin begins to lose its youthful glow and elasticity. Dead skin cells do not shed as quickly and turnover of new skin cells may decrease. Fine lines and wrinkles appear. The outermost layer of skin gets thinner and more compact, allowing less oxygen transfer, and less nutrients through.
One of the latest skin rejuvenation therapies, The Youthful Skin Treatment, is unique and individualized. It includes the use of the PRPen “Power Rejuvenation Pen”, which delivers the highest level of skin treatment and repair possible, without surgery. This device features a 6 mm replaceable tip with 12 “microneedles” that penetrate the skin with minimal discomfort through a series of micro-channels in the treated area, building up the connective tissue below while keeping the skin’s outer layer intact. This therapy stimulates keratin production, elastin, cell replacement and improves circulation, while allowing the bioactive agents (PRP or one of a selection of other agents) to enter the lower skin level. Safe on all skin types and all ages, from 18 to 80.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP is comprised of the patient’s own blood components which initiate a burst of growth cells to regenerate new tissue, improving skin texture, tone, and complexion. PRP facial rejuvenation is very effective for fine lines and wrinkles, acne marks, traumatic scars, large pores, stretch marks and loose, saggy skin. Since it is processed from the patient’s own blood, there is no risk of allergy or rejection with this treatment.
Healing and rejuvenating bioactive agents in the PRP are released beneath the skin’s surface causing a slight irritation to the dermal layer. It is this precise, targeted PRP attack on aging cells that forces nature’s healing powers to go to work, rejuvenating and rebuilding damaged skin. This process promotes the restoration of collagen and elastin which tightens and thickens skin.
The procedure is available for the face, neck and décolletage (each area is priced separately.)
The first step to prepare for PRP application involves drawing blood from the patient which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the rich plasma. The plasma contains hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important for tissue regeneration to help the healing process, increase blood circulation, promote hyperpigmentation and scar repair.
Patient arrives with cleaned skin.
A topical analgesic cream is applied to cleansed skin.
Once anesthesia has been achieved, the thoroughly cleansed skin is treated with an antibacterial wash.
The PRP serum is spread over a quadrant. With light pressure, the device is moved around that area.
The PRPen allows the slight adjustments of needle depth depending on the thickness of the skin for repairing deep scars or just skin rejuvenation. Shorter needles are utilized around the occipital (eye) area, chin, nose and eyebrows where skin is thinner.

The procedure is less expensive than other rejuvenating techniques, such as CO2 resurfacing, some laser treatments, some injectibles and, of course, surgery.

Why is the PRPen with PRP one of the best anti-aging procedures for you?
Platelet rich plasma has been used for healing for decades with surgeries due to its robust source of healing components which include growth factors, white blood cells and stem cells. These cells in PRP are dynamic factors in tissue regeneration and repair. Youthful Skin treatments are performed during an office visit and most procedures take less than an hour. You return home immediately with an after-care products kit and instructions. You can return to work in 24 to 72 hours with virtually no signs of redness or irritation. (We do not recommend applying make-up for at least 48 hours.) The progressive healing process begins immediately.

Long Term Improvement
The Youthful Skin Treatment with or without PRP offers our patients more options for aging skin. Patients will see results with one treatment after four to six weeks. This procedure, especially with PRP, is very effective which may partially or completely eliminate or delay the need for more expensive injectibles and fillers or surgical procedures. Each treatment is individualized for the condition of the patient’s skin and may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results. For all patients, yearly or bi-yearly follow-ups help keep the skin vibrant and refreshed. Others, especially older patients, may want to receive 3-4 treatments each year. We offer packages of treatments which will decrease the cost. If desired, this procedure can be used in conjunction with other therapies such as injectibles and regular skin care regimens with our esthetician to attain patients’ goals.
